100 MILES' TRAVEL TO SCHOOL
"Many children in the Parramatta district have to travel 75 miles each day—in one case a child had to travel 100 miles—to attend High School. Can yon wonder that the children misbehave?"
Airs E. B. Wilson made that statement at the Teachers' Conference today.
"I have seen examples of the bad behaviour of schoolchildren in trains which led to a protest in the news papers recently," she added.
"Travelling such distances is conducive to neither good health nor good education.
"Children do misbehave on trains. I have had to report instances to the headmaster, necessitating complaints by him to the parents. It can be remedied only by the provision of more schools.
