Report of Engineer

The report of the County Engineer (Mr T. Moorhouse) stated that the weather was. fair on the whole but was rather broken just before Christmas. There was a particularly heavy flood in the Katikati Riding where flood damage was fairly extensive. Flood damage elsewhere was not great. The cleaning up of the most urgent flood damage before Christmas coupled with the short working month owing to the Christmas holidays curtailed ordinary maintenance and special works somewhat. County Highways Tauranga-Matamata: Holes in seal repaired on Tauranga-Barkes corner section and edges graded in. Te Puna-Omokoroa. —Received 69 yds. of Te Puna Quarry metal! Rotorua Direct. —This road was' patched with 31 yards of McFadgens quarry rhyolite which was put on small spallsize and crushed and consolidated by rolling in place. The entire road was graded just before Christmas. Repairs to Tautau bridge practically completed before Christmas and bridge now finished. Upper end of road will require scrubbing before the winter. Papamoa-Mount: Received seven days’ grading by planer in December, and also further frequent grading over the holiday season early this month. Scrub cut at Te Maunga station entrance.
