Eight Frost. There Avas a light frost last night and the temperature was appreciably lower than it has been for some little time. The days are growing noticeably longer, and with daylight saving at the end of the month winter will be well behind us.

Roberts Street Work

Scathing comment on the metalling work in Roberts Street, was made by Cr. C. S. Moffatt at yesterday evening’s fortnightly meeting of the Tauranga Borough Council Avhen a petition was received from householders thanking the Council for what had so far been done, but requesting that further metalling and grading be undertaken. Cr Moffatt considered that small boys throwing Stones from the bank top could have spread more metal than, had so far been spread. It was, however, pointed out by Cr H. W. F. King, Chairman, of the Works Committee, that weather conditions for that work had been far from favourable recently, and the street would receive attention when conditions permitted.

Street Collection. At the Borough Council meeting last evening, Cr H. W. F. King, on behalf of Mrs .F. W. Doidge, sought permission for a street collection in aid of the Aeroplane Fund. The day fixed Avas Friday, September 27, and there would be six integral points. On the motion of the Mayor, permission was granted, subject to the approval of the business houses outside which the stands Avould b 6.
