RESCUED FROM PIT LEDGE
Weak from exposure and loss of blood, a man, aged 60. was rescued by police from a narrow ledge on the brink of a 150 ft drop in a brick pic at Alexandria. Passing the pit at the rear of Euston Road, Alexandria, a man heard a faint cry. He telephoned the police and Constables Travis (Mascot) and McPherson (Botany) went to the pit. The constables had difficulty in keeping their feet on the slippery ground, and, aided by the civilian. Constable McPherson lowered Travis to the ledge, on,a rope. The man was prilled up to the top and Travis climbed out after him. The man told the police that he had been on the ledge since about 6.30 p.m. the day before. “My wife died six months ago, and I have been very worried,” he said. There was a gash in his wrist, and after treatment at South Sydney Hospital he was taken to the Reception House.
