A PAGE FROM THE PAST TAURANGA FIFTY YEARS AGO The Bay of Plenty Times of May 1, IS9O, contained the piece:.—“The undermentioned Crown Lands, etc., will he offered by publicauction in the Land Office, Tauranga, •on Tuesday, the 20th day of May, 1890, at 11 o’clock a.m. —To be leased for 7 years, at an upset annual rental of £l, Section 7, Block 11, Waihi South, containing 5 6 acres, known as the racecourse reserve. The right to cut flax, from the Stewart Town reserve, Block 11, Maketu, at an upset price of £lO, flax to be removed within six months. Small grazing run, No 9, situated on the Kaituna River, south of the Maungarangi reserve, Maketu survey district, containing 5000 acres, upset price, £4l 13s 4d per annum, for a period of 21 years. Sections adjoining the police reserve ,at Maketu, under occupation license from year to year. No value for improvements to be allowed at end of term.”
