OLD MAN’S LONELY TRIP

After a five-months trip of 1000 miles by road , from the Queensland cattle country, John Healey, 76, has arrived in Adelaide in quest of the old age pension. His only companion was his little black mare, Dolly, who, in spite of her own 20 years, has brought her master safely to the city. The affection that exists between them is shown by the fact that' though Healey has arrived with scarcely a penny in his pocket, the condition of the mare shows that she has not been allowed to go hungry. Loves His Mare “I’d rather she ate than I did,’’ said the old man, who broke in the mare and has prized her ever since. Sleeping out at night, Healey travelled in a four-wheeled, hooded, buggy, nearly half as old as himself and patched and battered.
