NEW BOWLING GREENS

THE TAUKAXGA SOVTH CLUB

Team work and enthusiasm are working wonders on the new greens of the Tauranga South Bowling Club. In deciding toTmd a new location, the Club was well advised. The site chosen is an admirable one, between Cameron Road and Devonport Road, just beyond Eleventh Avenue. Formerly a portion of Mr. A. Davoren’s orchard, it is well Up, flat and sunny, and at the moment the grass on both greens is coming away splendidly. The present access is from Devonport Road by about a two chain right-of-way, but eventually the new road through -Mr. C. Tutchen's property from Eleventh, Avenue, will stop at the greens, to which it will provide the main access. The green nearer Devonport Road is on a slightly lower level than the other, —both are full size—and between the two is some thirty or forty feet, which will lend itself to future beautifying, and provide an excellent setting for the grounds. At present working bees of Club members are busy top dressing, and generally getting the grounds and surroundings into such a state as will enable play to be commenced there next season. The pavilion is also in course of erection. Cement faced, it will be a substantial and commodious Club house when finished. It stands on the southern side between the two greens, facing north. On the eastern side will be the kitchen, 16 x 10, in the centre the locker room, 20 x 16, and on the eastern end is a Committee room 10 x 16. Between the two latter will be folding doors, which when open will provide a commodious room for general meetings of members. A spacious portico, will provide ample room for afternoon tea.

The ditches are still to go in, and these are to be concrete faced on the inner side.

The members are to be congratulated on their enterprise and on the enthusiastic manner in which many members are assisting to bring the greens and appurtenances into being.
