TE PUKE NOTES
POPULAR FOOTBALLER PAREWELLED (From Our Correspondent) Mr C. Satherly, who is leaving shortly for Prankton to fulfill a transfer of promotion on the N.Z. Railways staff, was the guest of honour at a footballers smoke concert on Saturday night. Over sixty enthusiasts were in attendance. Mr T. Palmer 1 had charge of the duties of . toast-master, and saw that each toast was proposed,, honoured ’ and responded to in appropriate style. Items were interspersed in the programme and recitations and songs by Messrs W. Barker, Switzer, Clark and J. Bennett met with continuous applause. Mr G. Webber obliged as a pianist and gave the lead for musical honours and other songs. Mr A. Spratt and Mr F. Pearce, President and Secretary respectively of the Te Puke Rugby Union, took the opportunity of making a few remarks. They said that Te Puke were losing a valuable and popular member of the Te Puke Representative team in' the departure of Mr Satherly. His experience as a player was inestimable, and his services as a coach for the team would he greatly missed. They wished him every success in his new position and asked him to accept a handsome crocodile pocket wallet. Hr T. Wilkins on behalf of the Papamoa Club presented Mr Satherly with a complete set of silver-backed hair brushes. Mr Satherly suitably thanked those responsible for organising the function, and also his friends for their kind remarks and gifts. COLLISION CASE Before Messrs Alexander and J. Persey, J.P.’s on Monday morning at the Te Puke Courthouse, a case was heard against James Robert McKay, labourer,, who was charged with being in a state of intoxication while driving a car, which collided with a lorry driven by Mr Kenneth Taft, a few miles out of Te Puke on a bridge. The defendant was convicted and fined £ls and costs and his license was suspended for 12 months.
