SHORT JACKET IS LIKED FOR SPRING SUITS

New York.—As the spring suits are being ordered, it seems that the short and collarless jacket is the early favourite. While the mannish, very severely tailored jacket is. sometimes longer, this type is chiefly for the suit rather than for sportswear. The semi-fitted jacket that buttons high to a collarless neckline, usually round, sometimes square or else to small collar, is again a leader, its rival being the semi-fitted mannish tweed instead of severely tailored worsted. Boxy jackets from two-third to~ topcoat lengths and reefers are also on the important list. Press pleats are bigger favourites than ever, all-around or grouped at front or side front. Patterns show a new colour influence — quite lively medium and light shades being combined in plaids, checks and diagonals. Rusticotta is a new shade between rust and spice. There is a soft coral tone, too, that is a variation of the same colour range. On the other hand, the blubs—-haze, deep foam, royal, dark blue —are all tops. And a bluish dark green is pointed out. Some are combining colours oddly such as the Rusticotta with foam ■blue. Look at spring in terms of its colours. jTwo shades of one colour — say a rose for the jacket, a wine for the skirt —are already meeting with good response. Combinations of vibrant pastels—two or more of them to a patterned diagonal or small checked tweed, are very English, you know, and are being made up into a series of jackets for combination with dark skirts. Black tweed is good now, and black gabardine is mentioned for later. Oatmeal and beige and navy are leaders, and Sandringham a good repeat. Champagne with olive is cited as an excellent combination.
