Soft White Hands a Big Part of a Girl’s Beauty

pj Jacqueline Hunt There is many an interesting story to be found in' a woman’s hands. Let the story that your hands tell be a romantic and beautiful one. Rough skin and poorly conditioned finger nails should play no part in it. At one time no hand was considered to be beautiful unless it was small and dainty, slender and tapering at the fingertips. But, according to thes.modern standards, the beautiful'hand is the one that is - soft, smooth-skinned and immaculately clean from the wrists to the tips of the finger nails. The shape makes little difference'. A reasonable amount of everyday eare and a weekly manicure, is the recipe for hands that are worthy of romance, and that’s a programme that any girl can manage. The weekly session of hand-grooming should be leisurely and relaxing so that it can be given the deliberate attention it deserves. If you must make every minute count, give yourself a facial first ■ and leave the softening cream or one of th§ milk cream masks on your skin while you are working on your hands. Before starting your manicure, assemble your "working equipment—soap, a small bowl of warm water for the suds, a nail brush and a few simple manicure tools. Filing the nails comes first. Let the. shape of the fingertips guide you in shaping them. Next, steep the fingers in a bowl of warm soapy water to soften the cuticle. The softer the cuticle the easier it is to push it back into a soft frame for your nails. Remember to do this every time you wash your hands or remove them from the water after washing dishes or doing the laundry. Always work

gently with the cuticles if you wish to avoid the bruises that cause ugly white spots on the nails. Apply cuticle oil or hail cream every night before retiring. Both the daily and weekly hand routine should include a thorough cleansing under eaclx nail with a cot-ton-tipped orange wood stick, not only for the sake of appearances, but because the foreign material that collects beneath the nail breeds germs. After the nails have been shaped, cleansed and treated, the hands should be scrubbed thoroughly in warm water, soapy water. Use the brush vigorously,to uproot the grime and help the suds do their cleansing work. Most girls find that three quick lengthwise strokes of the brush is the best way to apply liquid polish. Before it has a chance to dry, use the orange stick to remove any excess polish that may have been hails and to remove excess polish from the' nail tips. Choose your polish according to your skin tones, your dress and the occasion. Vivid polish may be lovely with a black dress, but if you wear the dress to business you had better use a subdued shade of polish and save the bright colour for evening.
