A PAGE FROM .THE PAST TAURANGA FIFTY YEARS AGO Paragraphs from the Bay of Plenty Times of August 19, ISS9, read: “We notice that sections 215, 216, 217, Te Puna, are being offered for selection under the act of 1887. Our readers may remember that the sections are part of Te Puna peninsula, sections of which were some months ago offered for sale at the land office here. There are we think, twelve altogether available for settlement, arid why the land office should select only these three for settlement we cannot understand. There is surely some mistake. These sections will be open for selection on the 7th of September next. We know that one section, which is apparently not to be offered, has been examined by prospective settlers, and unless this mistake is rectified by the la’nd board, they may change their minds about settling here.” “We notice that our old friend, Mr. Clements, Shoemaker, has returned to Tauranga and restarted his old business. His experience was —better £ 1 in Tauranga than £ 2 anywhere else.” ,
“A lady asked one of the little boys attending No. 1 school how he was getting on with his studies. The lad replied, ‘Oh, fine. I can nearly stand .on my head now like the other boys. I’ve only got to lean- one of my legs against the fence.’ ”
