An enjoyable light suppei Wa^h e Mount Maunganui Catholic rinirch Committee, held their weekly ‘soo’ card tournament on Tuesday pveiling when the prizes were presented after a light supper had been served, the winners being: Mrs. Bell ladies’ first prize; Mrs. Wheeler consolation. Mr. Ludwig, gentlemen’s first prize; Mr. Magee, consolation. School Banco The Mount Maunganui School Committee held a dance at the school last Saturday night when there was a good muster of young people, who spent a very enjoyable time.^ Dance music was supplied by panatrope and a light supper was appreciated. First Aid Classes The first aid classes conducted here every Thursday night by the Tauranga Branch of the St. John Ambulance, continue to draw numbers of interested residents of all ages. Mrs. R. Faulkner, whose voluntary services as representative lecturer have been much appreciated, was relieved last Thursday evening by Mr. Diusdale, also, a member of the Tauranga Branch. Arbor Bay Celebration

The Arbor Day celebrations which had been deferred were held on Wednesday last. At 1.30 p.m. the school children were assembled in the school grounds and were addressed by Mr, C. J. West, Chairman of the Mount Maunganui Town Board, who was accompanied by Capt. J. Mitchell, Deputy Chairman.

JVIr. West in his address dwelt on, the importance of Arbor Day and explained to the children why it was 1 held. He asked them to take a personal pride in the trees they were about to plant, so that in the years to /come they could point with .' pride to the culmination of their efforts. Mr, West announced that the trees about to he planted were donated by Mr. E. C.. Banks, and the Identity tags to be attached by the children to their individual trees were donated by Capt. Mitchell. Mr. h. B. Hart had promised a prize for an essay on tree planting, the sub-' 4ect to be announced later, and, also that the Town Board would be donating prizes for the best tended trees, at the end of twelve months. The Headmaster, Mr. Hilford, then marched the children to the school, when Avith the assistance of the teachers the children planted 130 trees along the school road. Personal Mrs. F. B.'
