SERIOUS CHARGES
LOCAL RESIDENT ARRAINGED At a sitting of the Court on Tuesday, before Messrs C. T. McFarlane and F. W. Meikle, J.P.’s., Nevil ‘Martin, a signwriter, appeared to face eighteen charges concerning young girls, • including fourteen indecent acts with intent to insult or offend, three of indecent assault, and one of attempted carnal knowledge. Sergeant J. Edwards prosecuted and Mr J. K. Lusk represented the accused.
The suppression of the names of the girls was ordered by the court. The hearing lasted all day and was resumed yesterday morning. After the hearing of evidence accused pleaded guilty to nine charges of indecent acts with intent to insult or offend.. In two cases of indecent acts no evidence was offered and in the remaining charges the court held that a prima facie case had not been established. The accused was committed foxsentence to the Supreme Court at Auckland. Bail was not asked for.
