BARONET IN GAOL
AX APPEAL LODGED Sir Frederick James Siddartha Affleck, now in a Brisbane gaol, has appealed against his conviction and sentence of four years for robbery and blackmail. The prisoner became the ninth baronet of Dalham Hall, Suffolk, a week ago, on the death of his aged father. Sir Frederick Danby James Affleck. Notice of the appeal will come before the Court of Criminal Appeals. In an interview at the gaol the new baronet told,of the family’s misfortunes, and said he hoped to go to England to take up the title when he was free. He also hoped to become an author. “Proud of Family” “Naturally I do not intend to get into trouble again, and I am exceedingly proud of the family from which I have rescended,” he said. “There is .very little I can say about my title, except that it is an old one, and that I am the ninth in the line of succession.
“My father always regretted that our family estate passed into the hands of strangers. Things would have been different for him and’probably for us had Dalham Hall noH been sold for £ 100,000 when the family fortune of was lost by fraud.”
The first baronet received the honour for valour as an admiral under Rodney against the French in 1782.
