SPARE THE TREES
Sir, —I was pleased indeed to see ■yesterday an attempt to obtain a reprieve for the four trees ih Devonport Road at the corner of Fifth Avenue, but regret to say from past experience that the hope of their being saved is a forlorn one. One by one some beautiful trees have been hacked down in the Borough, all protests and requests being in vain. No doubt the trees in question were planted by the late Mr. J. C. Adams, and have been watched by his family with pardonable pride as they grew. They certainly have been admired by many, and when the axe falls first there ivill be many regrets. I add my word to that of “A Lover of the Beautiful,” but feel that our appeal will fall on deaf ears. ‘‘TREE LOVER.”
