TE PUKE NOTES
FOOTBALL (From Our Correspondent) In the senior grade, Paengaroa is still unbeaten and appears to be in almost an unassailable position as far as winning the competition is concerned. Roto-Ehu defaulted to them on Saturday.
Thp Jubilee Park fixture saw Papamoa "break a season of defeats with a victory against United by 13 points to 5 points. They thoroughly deserved their win, and their points came from tries ... gained by Rehu, Donnovan and Potene. United’s five points were secured by Farrelly, a try, and a conversion by J. McKenzie. Mr A. Spratt was the referee; The .Rangiuru seniors had a bye. With a few minutes to go, Old Boys were attacking and had a 12 to 3 lead over their opponents, Rangiuru, when the manager of the lastnamed team withdrew the players from the field. Earlier incidents lead up to this climax. A decision given by the referee, R. Wagener, late in the second spell did not appear to meet with the approval of the manager and supporters of the Rangiuru team. Questionable tactics entered into the match at this stage and the referee gave a Rangiuru player his marching orders. The players continued to be ruffled and R. Wagener was obliged to order four players, two from either-side, to the side line. It was at this stage that the manager stepped in and withdrew his .team. The Old Boys’ side lead, throughout, their twelve being made up .as follows: (McNaughton two penalty goals, V. Sharp, V. Mansell tries). Te Ante scored for Rangiuru. Representative. Team The following representative .team has been selected to meet Rangitaiki at Te Puke in a friendly match next Saturday: Backs, J. McClure, J. Graham, McConnell, Donovan, R. Valder,. Ahomiro, Oxenham': Forwards, Barker, Lennard, Johnstone, Satherly, Phillips, Hughes, Wickcliff e, Nicholson. Emergencies: Wilkins (forward), Richmond , (back)f • The selection should 'meet with general approval. Four new players appear in the side. A promising lad in G. McClure replaces J. Bennett at full back, and with encouragement should perform well. McConnell is an experienced representative player and will strengthen up the back line. Oxenham may solve the halfback problem. Wickcliffe replaces Kingi in the forwards and will add more zest to' the play. Messrs C. Satherly and W- Barker were appointed at the Rugby Union meeting as player-coaches of the side, and should mould together a solid combination. The Te Puke B team to meet the Rangitaiki B team in a curtain-rais-er will be selected from the following players; —Borrie (2), O’Reilly (2), F. Johnstone; Gordon, Dinsdale, Roberts, Walters, Wilkins, Collins (forwards), G. Kingi, Tapsell, Hickey, Sherman, Stapleton, Perrett, Hajrwood, Williams, Maxwell, Rangi (backs).
