SOCIAL SECURITY

ODDFELLOAVS’ RESOLUTION. The Star of Auckland Lodge, No. 26, of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, after discussing the Social Security Act, passed the following resolution: —“That this lodge is of opinion that the Social Security Act in its present form will have a detrimental effect upon the welfare of friendly societies and that the tentative promises of m’embers of the present Government are not sufficiently definite nor adequate enough to secure their existence. It is also desirous that steps be taken, preferably prior to the next Parliamentary election, to ascertain from the responsible authorities the exact position of the friendly societies after the Act comes into operation, and to endeavour to secure more definite suggestions in order to secure that societies will retain their present usefulness.” It was decided that the resolution should be forwarded to the Dominion Council of Friendly Societies, with a request for favourable consideration.
