TE PUKE NOTES

FOOTBALL MATCH TAFRANCA V. TE PUKE [From Our Correspondent; A good attendance witnessed the return match between the Te Puke and Tanranga representaties which look place on Jubilee Park on Saturday. The day was perfect for rugby and the ground was fast. The exhibition fell below the bright standard set by these two teams on the King’s Birthday, possibly because nothing was at stake. The teams were: Tanranga.—ll. Raiment, J. Rimini, J. Garvey, M. Murray, P. Dare, B. Bidois, W. Merriman, V.', McLeod, T. Ririnui. R. Rolleston, TV Kakau, P. Sander. P. Murray, J. MeNoilo (Capt.), Kirschberg. Te Puke.—R. Mann, E. Lilias. Oxenham, Kelly (Cant.), Ahomiro, Tapsell, P. and G. Webber. T. Leunard. Satherly, Hughes, Ollivier, Rhodes, Nicholson, T. Haywood. 1 ■; : : C. ’Satl-.ruly set the ball rolling and Kirchberg and Ririnui handled before the Te Puke forwards swarmed across and scrummaging followed, Te Puke were awarded a free kick early but Payment fielded and kicked well into touch at half way. Play worked from the Jine-out to the other side and KirschDerg, Kakau and Dare put Tanranga on attack, but Merriman failed to set Ills backs moving and P. Webber and Nicholson took the ball at toe for some distance. Webber and Nicholson broke away and bustled the Tanranga defenders, Raynient being called on to save. Kelly kicked over the dead ball line. Hughes, Ollivier and Rhodes, were conspicuous in a forward run across field and P. Webber broke away and short kicked for G. Webber and Nicholson to follow through to the Tauranga goal line. A force down by Tauranga was followed by a drop out. A scrum followed, but neither half back was doing his job cleanly, and the breakaway on both sides were harassing the respective five-eights. J. McNeile initiated a movement in which Kakau and Ririnui joined. Play went to the To Puke 25, and fast following up took play to the goal line where a set scrum was ordered. From a clean hook, Merriman fed Ririnui on the blind side and this player forced his way over. The kick missed. Tauranga 3, Te Puke 0. On resuming, very little constructive play was witnessed. An individual run by Merriman gained valuable yards for Tauranga, and the Tauranga forwards won possession from two successive line outs then Te Puke had a turn on attack. From a scrum in mid-field, the Te Puke pack secured and Tapsell passed to Ahomiro to Kelly who cut through towards the goal, attempted a pass in- field which he recovered and then sent P. Webber over for a try. Satherly goaled. Te Puke 5. Tauranga 3. Continuing, Merriman elected to run around the edge of the scrum anu penetrated deeply before handing on to McNeile who was stopped m a scoring position. Ahomiro cleared to outside the Te Puke 25, and plaj was even until Merriman swung the ball to Garvey after it was hocked from a set scrum mid v. r ay between Te Puke 25 and half way. The last named player dropped the pass but dribbled through the red and blacks for Dare to carry on, pick up and [dive over beneath the posts. Ras* I merit Tauranga 8, *®;- Puke 5.
