Fire Brigade Competition. The Tauranga Fire Brigade held the monthly medal run last night. The result was Fireman E. Fletcher 1, Fireman M. Curtis 2, Fireman G. Swan 3. Thirteen competed. Car Accident. While Mr and Mrs Braysbay were returning by car to Tauninga, via the Kaimai Road, yesterday afternoon, on reaching a point sixteen miles from Tauranga, another car suddenly stopped in front of Mr Brayshay’s car to allow a passenger to alight. In endeavouring to avoid a collision Mr Braysbay swerved his car and in doing so it left the road and plunged over the hank, somersaulting once and coming to rest against a cabbage tree’ twenty feet down. Fortunately Mr and Mrs Braysbay escaped injury. Slate Houses. The official opening of the first hatch of State houses at Tauranga will take place, probably next week. Owing to prior engagements Mr Lee, M.P. Under Secretary for Housing, regrets that ho cannot perform the opening ceremony, and has requested Mr C. 11. Burnett, M.P., to act for the Government. The Mayor of Tauranga and the Chairmen and members of local bodies will bo invited to attend the ceremony. The official date will be duly notified. School Excursion ’Praia. The school excursion train comprising fourteen ears, left Tauranga at 7.10 litis morning and also picked iri many more children between Tauranga and Katilcati. About eight hundred children made the trip. The train is due back to-night at ‘J.IG o’clock.
