HOUSEKEEPING [DIPLOMAS SUGGESTED English and Australian girls ought to go to school and earn domestic diplomas before marriage* This is the view of Mrs Elsie Cannonford, the Australian social worker, who is much impressed by the German diploma plan. “Only if we adopt something like it,” she says, will we have really happy and lasting marriages.” Mrs Cannonford is advocating the establishment of Government-con-trolled housewifery schools giving three months’ courses in sewing, cooking and child welfare,- and also teaching girls how to run a house on a small weekly'’ sum, how to choose furniture, and how to keep a husband’s dinner hot.
