LUCKY ESCAPE
AIR LINER FIRED ON Shanghai, Feb. 28 Well marked with Union Jacks, an Imperial Airways’ liner, bound from Bangkok to Hongkong, when passing over a squadron of Japanese destroyers at an altitude of 12,000 feet, ran a gauntlet of shells and maohirte-guu bullets. Luckily the air liner was not hit and arrived safely. Following discussions with Japanese officials in Tokio and Hongkong Imperial Airways decided to alter the route from Bangkok to Hongkong. An official account says Japanese fighter ’planes mistook the air liner for a Chinese craft, but on their near approach discovered their error, except one ’plane, which fired a few shots.
