CRICKET

MATCHES AGAINST OUTSIDE TEAMS Tauranga had a cricket feast at the week-end, one team visiting Tuakau, and the other teams playing Rotorua and Otorohanga here. At Tuakau, after being entertained in a wonderful way, Tauranga had a win, though unfortunately Jim Curtis, captain of the Star Club, and W. Dawkins, Fire Brigade, both suffered ankle injuries that may keep them out of cricket for the remainder of the season. The A team met a hastily gathered Rotorua eleven and had a close win of 1 run. In the other match, injury again cropped up. This time Larson, a visitor, suffered a nasty, cut over the eye, necessitating two stitches. Here a greatly strengthened B team had a good victory, though Ted Crowley helped a lot with a well balanced 35. Scores were as follows: TAURANGA V. OTOROHANGA OTOROHANGA retired hurt - L.
