DEEP-SEA FISHING

FURTHERjCATCHES VISITOR FROM NYASALAND VERY PLEASED WITH SPORT Mr A. G. 0. Hodgson, of Nyasaland, British Central Africa, returned last night from a visit to the Mayor Island fishing grounds in the launch Spindrift. Mr Hodgson stated this was his first experience of deepsea sport, which he found exciting and well up to all that had Been claimed for it. On Monday he landed a striped marlin of 3061 b., which fought for forty minutes. On Tuesday a shovel-nosed shark, estimated to weigh about 4001 b., was landed, and alter another swordfish was hooked. It gave a- fine display of leaping and jumping and after a good fight dislodged the hook and escaped.

Mr Hodgson is accompanied by Mrs Hodgson. They will leave today for 'trout-fishing in the Rotorua area and later will visit the South Island. They arrived in New Zealand on January 18 and intend leaving by the Wanganella from Wellington on May 12. Mr Hodgson was delighted with his stay at Mayor Island and stated that he hoped to spend another holiday in the same locality.

Mr McGowan, of Hamilton, fishing from the Spindrift secured two mako sharks of 2601 b. and 1301 b. Mr Meredith, of Hamilton, had a .big fish on for two and a half hours but eventually it broke away.
