PREFERS PONY TRAP

HUSBAND OF "FLYING DUCHESS” HATES ’PLANES London, April 3. AVhon the 8.8. C. -announcer gave out the tragic message this week that “all hope of finding the Duchess of Bedford alive has now been abandoned,” he was heard by the 8 0-year-old Duke on one of the earliest wireless sets. Ever since the “Flying Duchess” disappeared in her aeroplane the heart-broken Duke lias been directing the search for her. In the search use was made of aeroplanes, radio, telephones and motor-cars. He was grateful for their aid, but in his heart he despises them as the inventions of a crazy age. One of the four richest dukes in Britain, he is one of the few remaining members of the Victorian school. He dislikes the rush of modern life. He avoids going- to London. The Duke could never be persuaded to fly. He owns a 1924 Rolls Royce and one of the first Napiers. A more common sight in his park is a pony and trap.
