INFANTILE PARALYSIS

PATIENTS IN AVAIKATO Hamilton, April 19. Five additional cases of infantile paralysis were admitted to the Waikato Hospital yesterday and to-day from Te Awamutu, Hautapu and Tapapa districts. Two are children of four years, two childreff of three years, and the fifth a man of 25 years. There are now fifteen cases in the hospital. None is regarded as serious. - As a precaution further rings have been formed round the localities from which cases have been reported and 35 schools in the areas have been closed. Pupils coming from these areas to attend secondary schools in Hamilton have been requested to remain at home and all children up to the age of 16 years are required to refrain from attending picture shows and gatherings of various kinds. ■ The pupils attending the Hamilton secondary schools were warned to-day that their schools might also be closed at any time. The following schools in the rings referred to were ordered by the district health officer, Dr H. B. Turbott, to be closed for undetermined periods as from to-day:—Matamata, -Tirau, Hinuera, Okoroire, Okoroire Railway, Tapapa, Selwyn, Te Poi, Mangawhero, Okauia, Turanga-o-moana, Waharoa, Mati, Ngaruawahia, Glen Massey, Horotiu, Cambridge, Goodwood, Hautapu, ’iamahere, Matangi, Karapiro, Leamington, Putaruru, Arapuni, Maungatautari No 2, Puketurua, Te Awamutu, Kihikihi, Rangiaohia, Te Rahu, Mangapiko, Tokanui, Puahue and Roto-o-rangi.
