A BUSY YEAR
RECORD CALLS FOR BRITISH LIFEBOATS The year 1936 was, for the lifeboat service, the busiest in its history. Lifeboats were launched 466 times to the help of vessels in distress—an average of nine launches a week. , There are now 131 motor lifeboats and 3 7 pulling and sailing lifeboats—a fleet of 168 lifeboats round the coasts of Great Britain and Ireland. Eleven more motor lifeboats are under construction, and will be completed during 1937.
