TREASURER’S REPORT ACCOUNTS IN CREDIT RATE COLLECTION The Treasurer, Mr H. Lewis, presented the following financial report to Friday’s meeting of the Tauranga County Council; The report presented at the last meeting of the Council to the effect that rate payments during March would show an appreciable increase, was realised. The major portion of the claims for refunds from Main Highways Board, Public Works Department for grants, the Government for relief works and ragwort eradication, were met. This resulted in the large overdraft, as reported at that meeting, being wiped off, and the year ended with the County Fund showing a credit balance. The present balances of the several accounts at the Bank are as follows: £ s. d. County Fund a/c. Cr. 1,404 9 6 Loans Account Cr. 3,088 1 2 Bridge Fund A/c. Cr. 357 13 1 Imprest No. 2 A/c. Cr. 518 9 9 The accounts before the meeting for passing of payment amount to £4,G05 14s 5d being £ 3,579 5s 2d on the Fund Account, £ 285 7s 2d on the Loans Account, £ 396 10s relief works and £ 344 12s Id for grants. Urgent accounts that fell due, prior to to-day’s meeting, amounting to £1,096 8s 7d, have been paid. Percentage of rate collection with last year’s figures in parentheses were as follows; Katikati Riding, 73 per cent. (76.5 per cent.). Waimapu Riding, 78 per cent. (79 per cent.). Maketu Riding, 78.5 per cent. (75 per cent.). Te Puna Riding, 75.3 per cent. (76 per cent.). Te Puke Riding, 75.15 per cent. (76 per cent.). The County s total was 76.56 per cent, as against 76.7 per cent. The year’s receipts and expenditure figures are in excess of the previous year's totals and constitute a record for the County. A review of the year’s operations throughout will be prepared and presented before the annual meeting, which falls due next month.
