BILLIARD SALOON
APPLICATION FOR XHW LICENSE
, A letter was read at last night's meeting' of the Borough Council from Messrs W. Floyd and R. Cook, stating they were led to believe that an application would be made to the Council at an early dale for a license for another billiard saloon in the town. They submitted that theie are a sufficient number of billiard tables in their saloons to satisfy the needs of players in the town and district now and for a long time to 'come. They stated that they paid to, the Council at least £ 100 per year for license fees and electric light. Mr H. L. Potter, inspector, reported that a license for a billiard saloon had been made by Mr R. Williams, for new premises in Hamilton Street. Cr McKinnon said he thought that two billiard saloons were sufficient for the place. Cr lies moved —That the matter be referred to the borough inspector to report upon.—Seconded by Cr McKinnon. Cr Yonngman said the Council should be careful in regard to creating a monopoly for those already in business. The Mayor said the question should he thoroughly considered. Cr McFarlane regarded billiard saloons as a detriment to young natives. - The motion was carried.
