HERRIES PARK SITE PETITION FROM MAORIS PRESENTED TO BOROUGH COUNCIL The Hon. D, G. Sullivan, Minister of Railways, in acknowledging a letter from the Borouglt Council urging that the ladies’ rest room be erected on that portion of Herries Park at the south entrance to the old whdrf. said he was going into the matter and would communicate again in due course. The letter was read at last night’s meeting of the Council and received. Mr S. Kohu and forty-nine other natives from settlements adjacent to the town, in a petition asked that in making further provision for a rest room for ladies and children, suitable provision be made for the women and children of the Maori people. It was stated that Maori women and children were excluded from the rest rooms provided for pakehas. The Mayor, Mr L. R. Wilkinson, said natives owned land in Tauranga ana if they provided a site the Council might consider the proposal. He moved —That the matter be referred to the Rest Room Committee to report upon. Cr McFarlane seconded.
