EYE OPERATIONS
MEN GIVEN VISION AFTER 28 YEARS
A man of 29 who has been blind since he was a baby, and another of about 53 who has been blind tor 28 years, are beginning to see as the result of delicate surgical work carried out at the Centra! Loudon Ophthalmic Hospital. Both had cornea grafting operations recently, and the hospital secretary stated; "We are in a position to say that the operations have been successful.’’
In spite of his blindness the 29-year-old patient, Mr H. Morgan, is a Doctor of Divinity and Bachelor of Arts.
When the bandages were taken from his eyes he was asked to put out his hand about a foot away from his face, and he could sufficiently define the fingers to he able to count them accurately. Next day an orange was shown him and he could distinguish the colour. Then an apple was plac ed before him. He accurately described it as being yellow on one side and red on the other. His training has been that of a blind man, and slowly he must now learn to substitute visual perception for sense of touch. • He is being taught the letters of the alphabet.
