WON BY AUCKLAND TAURANGA CREW SAIL WELL MONOT YPE GUAM PI ON SHIP TO-DAY EIGHTH RACE. Auckland, Jan. 25 The eighth race for the Cornwell Cup was sailed this morning off Bayswater in a light northerly breeze. The Christchurch crew, T. Bassett and C. Papps, won by 3m 3s from Otago, with Wellington third. The race started at 9.45, Wellington getting the best of a good start followed by Paremata, Auckland, Otago, Christchurch, Kaiapoi, Manukau, Lyttelton, Plimmerton, and Tauranga all close together. The course was two rounds of a triangle, from the club house round a mark at the head of Shoal Bay, round a mark off Northcote Point, and back—about six miles. On the first leg Paremata was in the lead followed by Lyttelton, Tauranga, Manukau, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, Otago, and Plimmerton. Paremata held the lead on the run to the lee mark, all carrying spinnakers to port. Paremata rounded first, followed by Lyttelton, Tauranga, Christchurch, Manukau, Wellington and Auckland. On the beat to the mark at the Club House the wind was light and Wellington did well on this leg and passed them all, Christchurch being close up after a fast run, the tinies being, Wellington lOh 38m 87s, Christchurch lOh 39m, Lyttleton lOh 40m 255, Tauranga lUii 40m 355, Manukau lOh 40m 565, Auckland lOh 42m 16s, Otago lOh 42m 255, Paremata lOh 42m 50s. The other boats were a long way behind. Christchurch turned the top mark with a lead of 2m 30s from Otago, with Auckland one minute later, Tauranga 2 minutes later. On the run to the mark at Northcote, Christchurch drew further away from Otago which was some distance ahead of Auckland, followed by Tauranga, Lyttelton and Wellington. On the beat to the finishing line Christchurch sailed a good course up the middle of the bay and maintained their lead. The finish was: Christchurch, llh 42m 225; Otago, llh 45m 255; Wellington, llh 47m 21s; Lyttelton, llh 48m; Auckland, 11m 4Sm ss; Tauranga, llh 48m 7s; Manukau, llh 48m 14s; Paremata, llh 51m 20s; and Plimmerton, llh 52m Ss. NINTH RACE. Auckland, Jan. 27 The ninth race started at 2.2 5 p.m. over three founds of a triangular course with the wind still a light northerly, but better than the morning race. Otago was first away, followed by Kaiapoi, Manukau, Tau ranga, Lyttelton, Auckland, Plimmerton, and the others close up. Paremata took the lead in the first round, with Tauranga close up, and on the beat to windward the Tauranga crew, sailing well, overhauled Paremata. The final -result was Tau ranga 1, Auckland 2, Plimmerton 3.

TENTH RACE. The tenth and final race started at 5 p.m. when there was again a light northerly. Tauranga was first away, followed, by Lyttelton, Wellington, Paremata, and Kaiapoi, with the others close up. After the first round Auckland led by 1m ss, from Tauranga, with Hamilton third. Auckland held the lead in the second round, being 1m 21s ahead of Plimmerton, Whangarei, Manukau and Tauranga. On the final round, Plimmerton closed up on Auckland, but the finish was: Auckland, 6h 23m 345; Plimmerton, Ch 25m 19s; Tauranga, 6h 27m 535; Whangarei, 6h 28m 355; Manukau, 6h 29m 7s; Christchurch, 6h 29m 17s.
