YESTERDAY’S RACES ONE WIN FOR TAURANGA LEADS ALL THE WAY Auckland, Jan. 23. The third race for the Cornwell Cup started at 11.5 a.m. to-day oft Bayswater in a steady full sail breeze from the south. There was a delay of two hours, owing to extra work entailed in refitting the masts and gear after yesterday’s mishaps. From a very good start, all boats being away in 50 seconds, Tauranga crossed first, followed by Christchurch, Kaiapoi, Wellington, Otago, Lyttelton, Plimmerton, Paremata, Manukau, Whangarei, Auckland and Hamilton. On the beat to the first mark Tauranga rounded with a lead of 20 seconds followed by Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland, Manukau and the others handy. Spinnakers were carried to the mark off Northcote and again on the run to the Clubhouse, and Tauranga maintained her lead round the Northcote mark, followed by Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch and Manakau close astern.

Good time was made on the run up the bay, the breeze freshening a little. Tauranga still held the lead rounding the mark at llh 38m 10s; Wellington, llh 38m 455; Auckland, llh 39m 555; Christchurch, llh 40m 255; Manakau, llh 41m 3s; Paremata, llh 42m 30s; Plimmerton, llh 42m 31s; Kaiapoi, llh 43m 255; Otago, llh 43m 355. Lyttelton, Whangarei and Hamilton were some distance astern. On the second beat to the pile beacon Tauranga rounded 11 minutes ahead of Wellington, with Christchurch, Auckland and Manukau next. On the broad lead to Northcote Tauranga improved her position 30s, with Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland leading the second division. The Tauranga crew were very smart in changing their spinnaker from port to starboard, and at this mark ran home to win by 1m 4 ss. The finishing times were; Tauranga, 12h 10m 12s; Wellington, 12h 11m 5 7s; Christchurch, 12h 12m 335; Auckland, 12h 12m 565; Manukau, 12h 14m 4 9s; Kaiapoi, 12h 17m 275; Paremata, 12h 17m 19s; Plimmerton, 12h 17m 575; Otago, 12h 19m 12s; Lyttelton, 12h 24m 555. Whangarei and Hamilton did not finish.

FOURTH RACE AUt KLA \1) SU( TKSSF L'L Auckland, Jan. 23 The fourth race for the Cornwell Cup was sailed this afternoon in a fresh southerly over four rounds of the windward and leeward course. Auckland got away to a good start at 3 p.m., followed closely by Christchurch, Otago, Lyttelton, Wellington, Paremata, Pllmmerton, Tauranga, Kaiapoi, Whangarei, Hamilton and Manukau.

On the beat to the first mark Auckland led Christchurch, followed by Otago, Tauranga, Lyttelton, and Kaiapoi. Spinnakers were smartly set for the run back to the mark off the club-house, Auckland rounding it at 3h 21m 20s; Otago, 3m 21m 325; Christchurch, 3h 21m 355; Tauranga, 3h 22m 15s; Lyttelton. 3h 22m 455; Kaiapoi, 3h 23m; Wellington, 3h 23m 20s; Plimmerton, 3h 23m 225; Paremata, 3h 23m 455; the others some distance astern.

On the second beat out to the mark in the harbour Auckland maintained their lead, Canterbury being 15 seconds behind, followed closely by Kaiapoi, Tauranga, Otago and Wellington.

The second round was completed with Auckland leading Canterbury by 40 seconds. Kaiapoi was third Im. ss. behind, with Tauranga 1m 40s, and Otago 1m 555. Wellington, Lyttelton, Paremata, and Plimmerton were next.

There was little change on the third beat out, Auckland leading Canterbury by 24 seconds, with Kaiapoi, Wellington, Otago, and Tauranga close up in this order.

Auckland maintained the lead in the last round, but Christchurch pushed her closely, being 25 seconds behind at the weather mark, with Kaiapoi next Im. 355., and Wellington 2m. ss. Otago, Tauranga, and Lyttelton were next.

Spinnakers were again set smartly by Auckland and the Christchurch crew for the run to the finish, which was timed Auckland, 4h 28m 13s; Christchurch, 4h 28m 345; Kaiapoi, 4h 30m 3s; Otago, 4h 31m 435; Wellington, 4h 31m 455; Tauranga, 4h 33m 595; Lyttelton, 4h 35m 9s; Plimmerton, 4h 35m 15s; Paremata, 4h 37m 40s; Whangarei, 4h 36m 51s; Manukau, 4h 38m 58s; Hamilton, 4h 43m ss. The fifth race starts at 9 a.m. on Friday. The weather is now set fine.

FIFTH RACE AUCKLAND WIN AGAIN Rec. 1.50 p.m. Auckland, Jan. 23 The fifth Cornwell Cup race was sailed this morning with the same result as yesterday afternoon; Auckland beat Christchurch by 33 seconds, with Kaiapoi again third. The race started at 9.55, Auckland being last away. At the first mark Christchurch led, with Wellington, Plimmerton and Kaiapoi next. At the next mark the same order prevailed, except that Auckland moved into third place. Christchurch completed the first round 25s ahead of Auckland, with Lyttelton and Wellington next. In the second round the wind was even lighter, but nearing the mark it picked up a little, Auckland passing Christchurch and increasing their lead to the lee mark. On the last lap the wind died right out, coming from the North. The finish was: Auckland, llh 32m 345; Christchurch, 11m 33m 7s; Kaiapoi, llh 43m 445; Tauranga, llh 44m 225; Wellington, llh 46m 235; Lyttelton, llh 46m 30s; Piimmerlon, llh 54m 3s; Otago, llh 5Sm 10s; Hamilton, 12h 2m 48s; Whaugarei, 12h 3m 4 3s. The others retired.
