Last night the anniversary of the Gunpowder -Plot was honoured by numerous fireworks displays in many parts of the town and district. One or two slight burning accidents are reported.
During the course of* his address at the Civlp Theatre last night Mr Fred Polley explained to the audience that in. the bag with his papers was a bottle of Water, which he had brought to drink, but the water had spilled amongst his papers and he could not read some of them. Mr Polley, however, was. not dismayed and proceeded without quoting the notes which, were affected by. the water. A wag in the audience wanted to know If there were any whisky in the bottle, but Mr Polly is wellknown as almost a total abstainer.
