Conversion of Loans PLOT IX PKYOXI'OKT KOAD. j The ordinary fortnightly meeting 0 f the Tauranga Borough Counci; was held in the Council Chambers or Wednesday evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor, Mr A. F. Tunks (in the chair), Crs J. M. Daines, F. j Allely, L. N'orris, C. Whiting, J. Taw, A. E. Nefl'sliam, J. F. Rufssell Wallace, V. J. Scantlebury and A. N. lies. Ninth Avenue West. Mr W. F. W. Cross, wrote acknowledging letter advising that the matter of improving Ninth Avenue West had been referred to the Works Committee for attention. Mr Cross said that at the time of writing nothing had been done and the state of the approach was so bad that he again requested the Council to give the matter immediate attention. For many years he had refrained from bringing the matter up, but felt that the time had now arrived for early action on the part of the Council. Cr Whiting pointed out that the * staff was engaged on work in Morris Street. Cr Xewsham said that the Council had important works in hand, and the road would receive attention when these were completed. He move( i_That a reply be forwarded accordingly. The motion was seconded by Cr Whiting and carried.

Connvoll Cup. Mr C. Palmer, Chairman of tin Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat As sedation, telegraphed the Mayor congratulating Tauranga on winning tne Cornwell Cup. The Mayor had replied to the effect that the people of Tauranga, ami the boating community in particular, thanked Mr Plunuaer for his congratulations. Cr Wallace moved—That the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association be thanked for their good wishes. —Seconded by Cr Allely and carried. Municipal Baths. Mr F. Bates, Treasurer of the Tauranga Amateur Swimming and Life Saving Club, in reply to a letter from the Town Clerk, advised that tho Club was doing its best to keep the bath.: in good condition and was erecting notices. The doors had bean attended to. The letter was received. Relief Kates of Pay. The Town Clerk, Hamilton, wrote stating that for some time past the Hamillon Borough Council had oojected to the unequal distribution of the Unemployment Fund. Reiief vorkers who have their homes in Hamilton, feel very keenly the difference which is drawn in „the relief granted to men in the country districts, when compared with that allowed to men in the four main centres, and he was directed by the council to ask for the support of the other towns in the district in the matter. The Council hoped that whilst the Municipal Conference was sitting in Wellington there would bo an oppprtunity of pointing out to the Ministers the injustice of the present position, and the necessity for some alteration to be made. The Tauranga Borough Council was asked whether it would assist. Cr lies moyed—That \ all possible assistance be given the Hamilton Council's request.—Seconded by Cr Daines andcarried. Land Transfer Plan. Mr W. Johnston, District Land Registrar, Auckland, wrote explaining the position in regard to Land Transfer Plan 24,662, Section b 27, etc., Te Papa (abattoir property). The Registrar stated that until the Chief Surveyor was in a position to approve of the plan the former's hands are tied. The Registrar suggested that the Council communicate with the Chief Surveyor. Cr Wallace moved—That the Council communicate with the Chief Surveyor on the subject.—Seconded by Cr lies and carried. Municipal Association. The Municipal Association advised that the next conference of delegates would be held at Wellington r.ni would commence on March 14. Copies of the Conference order paper were forwarded. The following remit was submitted by the Tauranga Borough Council: That all Boroughs and Town Boards he exempt from all liability through accidents arising through any tree or shrub planted, or beautifying enclosure placed on Borough or Town Board roads for beautifying purposes, provided that they have been planted by the authority of the Council or Town Board. Cr Newsham moved—That the Mayor be appointed delegate to the Conference.—Seconded by Cr Wallace. The Mayor suggested that the Deputy Mayor might also be appointed as a delegate, but Cr Newsham said he hid not wish to go. The motion was carried.

Title to Land. The District Land Registrar, Auckland, wrote advising that the certificate of title for Section 10 and 11, Block VI, Otanewainuku Survey District, an area of sac Or 15p, was ready for delivery, upon surrender of the certificate of purchase of freehold issued by the Commissioner of Crown Lands. Cr Wallace moved—That the matter be referred to the Borough solicitors for completion.—Seconded by Cr lies and carried. Subdivision of Land. ■-• Mr R. T. Goulding, licensed surveyor, wrote forwarding plan of sabdivision of Part Lot 7, for the approval of the Council. He stated that an area, as shown on the plan, was being acquired by the Tauranga Citrus Association, Ltd., and adjoined their factory site, which had the necessary access to Morris Street. Cr lies moved—That the plan be approved and sealed and signed by the Mayor and Deputv Mayor.—Seconded by Cr Allely and carried. War Trophies. Mr F. Kendall, Chairman of the Katikati Library Committee, wrote offering to hand over to the Council, a s exhibits for the proposed museum, a German machine gun and a German rifle. Cr lies moved—-That the Council the offer and thanks the Katifcati Library Committee for the gifts. —Seconded by Cr Law and carried. Conversion of Loans. th C. Lowe wrote offering to do the work associated with the conversion of the borough loans for a fee or ninety guineas, two-thirds payable on obtaining the approval of the M)ans Board, and the balance on the issue of new debentures for the conversion loan. he sain the conversion was a complicated business. Cr Wallace seconded. The Mayor supported the motion, which was put and carried unanimously. Municipal Abattoir. Mr A. T. Rutherford, manager of the municipal abattoir, forwarded report for the month of January, giving particulars of stock slaughtered as follows: Cattle, 99; sheep, 262; lambs, 116; calves, 3; pigs, 56. Slaughtering Fees and Sundries. — January, 1934, £3 20 2s 6d; January, 1933, £lOl 6s. The report was received. Borough Gardener's Report. . Mr W. Parlane, borough gardener, forwarded report for the month of January as follows: All lawns and the cricket ground have been kept mowed, and in the dry weather were looking bare. The swings on the domain have been attended to regularly and are in good working order. Weeding and planting seedlings have been carried out in the various plots, v and hedge cutting has been done where necessary. Cr Law said the plot opposite the Tauranga South Bowling and Tennis Club's grounds was overgrown, the growth including briars. Cr lies said his remembrance of the matter was that if the Council spent a portion of the Herries bequest on the area the South Club undertook to maintain the park, but the Club had not done so. Cr Law said there„w.ere no records in the Club's books in respect to the matter. Cr Newsham said the place was a public park and the Council (should keep it in order. It was agreed that the Town Clerk look up the records bearing on the matter. The report of the borough gardener was received. Dust Bins. Cr Norris moved —That the inspector be requested to remove the advertisements from the street dust bins.—Seconded by Cr Daines and carried. Electric Ranges. The Engineer, Mr C. W. Boak, reported that seven ranges were installed by the JElectricity. Department during the past month.
