Miss Dorothy Wills has returned to Tauranga from Auckland, and has taken up an appointment with Mr H. L. D. West, architect.

Mr and Mrs-T. H. Hall have returned from a three weeks’ visit to Rotorua. •

Mr L. G. Simmonds was admitted to the Tauranga Hospital on Wednesday and was operated upon yesterday for appendicitis. His many friends will be pleased to learn that he is progressing favourably. Mr R. T. Goulding,' who recently underwent an operation at the Tauranga Hospital, was able to leave the institution yesterday and is making good progress towards recovery. Dr and Mrs Lewis, who have been spending a holiday in Tauranga, have returned to Rotorua.

Messrs Burdis, Cridler, Randolph and Bullen are staying at the Star Hotel.

Messrs Oliver and Fraser are staying at the Tauranga Hotel. Out of fifteen applicants, Miss Lucy McLean, senior sister of the Auckland Public Hospital, has been appointed Matron of the Opotiki Hospital. Miss McLean will take over her new duties next month. Downie Stewart, M.P. is expected to arrive at Auckland from Canada by the Aorangi on Monday nexL Mr Will Lawson, who has been editor of “National Opinion,” the New Zealand Legion’s magazine, since its inception, has resigned that position to resume publicity work. Mr W. T. Ray, a representative of the Blue Star Shipping Line, arrived in Wellington by the Rangitiki from London this week. Mr Ray’s mission to New Zealand is to complete the arrangements arrived at recently in London between his company and the meat and dairy boards of New Zealand regarding the shipping of produce to Great Britain. Mr P. Everett, of Gisborne, has secured a national certificate in fruit culture, awarded by the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture. He is the first person in the Dominion to earn the certificate, which is the highest award in fruit culture in the Dominion. Mr Everett is well-known in Tauranga, having been orchard instructor here some years ago. The death has occurred at Whangarei of the Rev. Albert Whalley. He came to the Dominion from England, and for a number of years was in charge of Baptist churches in the Whangarei district, being in Whangarei from 1905 to 1913. He was the founder of the first Bible training institute in New Zealand, which commenced in 1912. and continued until the Great War, when it was closed.
