Mr H. Cairns, who has been an inmate of the hospital, was able to leave that institution yesterday and his many friends will be pleased to hear that, he is much improved in nealth. & . Lieutenant E. J. Browning is away at Ngaruawahia. Mrs P. Smith, of First Avenue, have returned from Auckland. Mr and Mrs D. Gamble arrived from Rotorua yesterday, and went on to Waihi this morning. Mr and Mrs J. J. Molloy, of Te Poi, are spending a holiday at Welcome Bay. ‘ Miss Griffiths and Messrs Baragh (2), Lance**Harper, and Spencer are staying at the Star Hotel. Mr Gordon Ward, well known among local amateur radio transmitters,' leaves to-day for Te Aroha, where he has secured a position. Mr Ward, while in Tauranga, operated station ZLICP.

Miss Butler and Messrs Heighway, MacParlane, Newsome, and Pethrie, are staying at the Tauranga Hotel.

Guests at the Commercial Hotel include Mr Julian, Mr Julian (junr.), Mrs Barton, Miss Richardson, Miss Crawford, Messrs Dupont, Young, Fullerton and Baddeley (Auckland), Benjes (Wellington) and Reid (Christchurch).

The death of Mr William Clement Cargill, a well-known resident of Morrinsville, occurred in a private hospital in Auckland on Saturday morning after a short illness, at the age of 63 years. At the time of his death he was managing-director of the Cargill Publishing Company, which publishes the Morrinsville Star, the Matamata Record and the Putaruru Press. 1

Mr Edward Patterson, of Devonport, has been appointed conductor of the Tauranga Municipal Band. Mr Patterson, .who expects to take up his new duties about September 4, is at present Conductor of the Takapuna Band, and hon. conductor to various societies, \ including the Auckland Concert Orchestra. He is an experienced cornet player and violinist and studied brass wind instruments, harmony and conducting at the Baltimore Virtuoso Music School, and some of his latest compositions, which were accepted in London, are ballet “Autumn Song,” , dance song “Nigger Lady,” march “Marcella,” and watzing song “Laughing Lady.” Mr Patterson should be a decided acquisition to the musical societies of Tauranga.
