FIRE BRIGADES
CONTESTS AT TE AROHA
The Auckland Fire Brigades Association’s annual provincial demonstration took place in the Merries Memorial Park, Te Aroha, on Saturday. There was an exceptionally good attendance of the public, who followed each event with keen interest. Forty-one brigades participated, involving a total of about 250 flre,men. Some exceptionally fine performances were given, particularly in the rescue and motor competitions. A combined church parade was held on Sunday. The Auckland Girls’ Silver Band, the Te Aroha Municipal Band and the Pipe Band, Scout‘and Girl Guide troops and friendly societies took part in the procession. The shields were won as follows:
Watts Championship Shield, for A Teams. —Otorohanga, 595 points, Te Aroha, 58, 2; Taumarunui, 505, 3. Breretou Shield, open for competition in all classes other than reel and rescue events.—Rotorua, 32 points, 1; Te Aroha, 26; Otorohanga, 225, 3. Cambridge Shield, three men, disabled hose event. — Otorohanga and Dargaville, 105, 1; Rotorua, 7,2; Te Kuiti and Te Aroha, 45, 3. Cambridge Shield, three men, disabled hose event. — Otorohanga and Dargaville, 105, 1; Rotorua, 7,3; Te Kuiti and Te Aroha, 45, 4. In the ordinary events some splendid work was seen. Results were:
Two Men, Hose and Standpipe.— Rotorua, 34 4/ss, 1; Taumarunui, 365, 2; Onehunga, 395, 3.
Three Men, Hose and Standpipe.— Otorohanga A, 255, 1; Te Aroha A, 27 3/ss, 2; Cambridge A, 28 3/ss, 3.
Five Men, Disabled Hose.— Taumarunui, 57 4/ss, 1; Otorohanga, GO 2/ss, 2; Dargaville, G4s, 3. Five Men, Hose, Reel and Ladder, —-Otorohanga A and Te Aroha A, 475, 1; Taumarunui A, 47 l/ss, 2; Te Kuiti A, 495, 3. Two Men, Rescue. — Whaugarei, 355, 1; Dargaville, Te Aroha A, Taumarunui A, 395, 2; Otorohanga A, 44 2/ss, 4. Four Men, Motor.— Rotorua, 54 2/se, 1; Whangarei, 575, 2; Te Aroha, 595, 3.
