PAPAMOA SPORTS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —When some people have a weak case they start abuse, but this gets them nowhere. Air J. H. Evans states that he was instructed by his Board. Will he give the names of the members present at the meeting giving those instructions. Mr McPike and myself were not there and this • leaves only three numbers, Messrs C. O. Riddell, J. Dickson and J. H. Evans.

Mr Danvers and myself were instrumental In getting the Papamoa Domain for the district, at no expense whatever, even to the survey of same. We at once started working bees and fenced in and planted a portion of the domain with tree*. We had no revenue, but did not whine about that. In three successive seasons the trees were destroyed by fires lit by some irresponsible persons, but we still planted and to-day have a small plantation growing. Mr Evans states that I have forfeited my seat on the Board. This is the first I knew of it. I was the first Chairman of the Board and have been re-elected, ever since. The last annual meeting I attended was in May last and at that meeting Mr McPike proposed myself as chairman. Mr J. Dickson seconded. Mr J. H. Evans proposed Mr C. O. Riddell; lapsed, no seconder. I duly elected. After I had taken the chair, Mr Evans queried Mr McPlke's right to vote, as he was not sure whether he was gazetted as a member. Mr McPike had previously been asked to attend this meeting by the hon. secretary. Mr McPike at once withdrew and I did likewise as a protest against such discourtesy. lat once wrote the Under-Secretary for Lands and he infomed me that Mr McPike had been gazetted prior to the annual meeting, and was in order in attending and voting at the meeting; so ray election as Chairman was in order. I am still waiting for Mr Evans’ apology to Mr McPike.

As Chairman, I have not been requested to call any meetings or authorised the hon. secretary to do so, and yet h© asserts that I have forfeited my seat on account of not attending meetings called. The Secretary of the Hall Society was instructed in March to offer the Domain Board a third of the proceeds from sports on Easter Monday. This was prior to letters in the press by "Home Rule” and Mr J. H. Evans. After the letters appeared the offer was cancelled and the Hall Committee decided to run a Farmers’ Picnic instead and make no charge.—l am, etc.,

W. A. BENNETT Maketu, April 6, 1933.
