UNEMPLOYMENT
FUND FAIRLY HEALTHY. The condition of the Unemployment Fund was mentioned in a question asked by Mr W. A. Veitch (Government—Wanganui) In the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr Veitch asked whether, with a view to, allaying anxiety, the Minister of Employment would make a full statement regarding the condition of the Unemployment Fund and what provision would be made to meet the additional burden on the fund that might be expected during the winter months. The Hon. A. Hamilton said that, realising that unemployment might be somewhat more difficult in, winter than in summer, the board was endeavouring to conserve its funds. It had been anticipated that registrations would have fallen off during the summer months, but there were so many relying oh the fund at present that practically the whole income was being used.
The fund, however, was in a fairly healthy condition, and with the help of local effort, it was hoped at all events to maintain the present allocations. There was still a possibility that there would be a falling-off in registrations during the remaining summer months.
