To-day—Dominion Day—is being observed as a Bank holiday. • All the unkindest things said about tobacco have been said by non-smok-ers. But Avhat can the man who never smoked know about smoking? And they are often so bitter, these enemies of the weed! Through the ages men have been persecuted and barbarously treated because they have dared to smoke. In Russia, in the long ago, smokers actually had their noses cut off! (vide Chamber’s Encyclopedia). They know nothing of brands, these fanatics. All brands are alike to them —anathema! Well, its idle to deny that there are brands that contain a heavy percentage of nicotine, and are better left alone. Their habitual use may undermine the .constitution, for nicotine is an insidious poison. But happily there are brands which are absolutely innocuous. Our own beautiful toasted New Zealand tobaccos are not only famous for bouquet, and flavour but perfectly harmless owing entirely to their comparative freedom from nicotine. The toasting does it! There are only four of these brands: Riverhead Gold-, Navy Cut No. 3, Cavendish, and Cut Plug Wo. 10.
