FORTHCOMING MATCHES

A meeting of the Management Committee of the Tauranga Rugby Union was held on Monday evening last.

There were present:—Messrs Butler (in the chair), Guinness, Hare, Browning, Hardy, Campbell, Riggir, Warner and the Secretary (Mr M. Simmonds).

The minutes of the previous meetings were read and confirmed. Congratulations were extended to the Athletics Seniors on winning the Gilbey Cup, and to the Tauranga Juniors on retaining the Shalloon Shield-against Opotiki. Athletics beat Te Puna, in the final of the Gilbey Cup by 14 to 10. Reprcsentat ive Matches.

Owing to casualties and the fact that a match between the Maori touring team to go to Matamata and a team to be selected by Messrs Hare and Guinness no match could be played with Rangitaiki on September 24. It was decided to visit Matata early next season to return the visits the Rangitaiki players have made to Tauranga this season. It was resolved to invite Waihi to play a representative match at Tauranga on October Ist. The Waihi Union propose making an excursion on that date when School and junior and senior representative teams will travel.

Overtures from the Eden Club to bring their 3rd grade team to Tauranga have been made. It was resolved to invite the team here on October 8 to play the Junior representatives. Dance to be Held. To complete a very successful season it was resolved to hold a dance on October 8 when all trophies will be presented An invitation will be extended to the Eden team to be present at this function. The engagement of a dance band has been held over pending further enquiries. Mclntosh Shield. The Te Puke Union has notified the Tauranga Union that they are unable to send a team to Tauranga to challenge for the Mclntosh Shield. Accounts. Accounts were passed for payment as follows: Insurance—D. Palmer, £1; I. Tangitu for denture £2. Ordinary—Bay of Plenty Times £1; D. H. Cameron 3s 6d; Tauranga Hotel, 7s 6d. " Appreciation. The headmaster of the Greerton School wrote thanking the Union for a football for the school.

The following is the team selected by Messrs Hare and Guinness to play a native representative team in a trial match on Saturday next: Full-back, Rayment; three-quar-ters, Olsen, Gray, Ferguson; fiveeighths, Cully, McKearney; halfback, Davoren; forwards, Polley, Fitzpatrick, D. Cameron, C. Cameron, Rhodes, Cullimore, Farmer, Mansel.

Emergencies: Merriman, Pemberton, Klitscher, Wilkins.
