The door takings at the flower show yesterday were very satisfactory. Amongst those present were visitors from Morrinsville and Te Puke. The election of seven Commissioners for the Mount Maunganui Town District is being held to-day. The candidates are Messrs D. P. Bain, E. C. Banks, E. C. Banks (junior), F. P. Bennett, W. H. Howard, G. T. Jones, J. Kimber, C. B. Miller, R. B. Stewart, J. R. Tait and C. J. | West. It was reported a few days ago that the motor ship Port Whangarei, which had left Port Stephens for Auckland, had met with a mishap and put back to Newcastle for repairs. Mr B. C. Robbins, as agent for Captain Watchlin, has received advice that the report of damage to the vessel is incorrect. The message says the ship is extremely satisfactory in every way and was to sail from Newcastle for Auckland yesterday. The Port Whangarei will enter the service between South Island ports, Tauranga and Whangarei.

Mr Hastings, organiser for the New Zealand Co-operative Pi& Marketing Association, will address a meeting in the Foresters’ Hall at eight o’clock this evening.

The launch Naomi returned this morning from a trip to the deep-sea fishing grounds. The catch comprised a number of hapuku.

The Tauranga natives will play a football match at Matamara on October 1 against the Matamata Maoris, the holders of the Ratana Cup. The selectors of the local team are Messrs S. Ngatai, C. Motur tere, T. McLeod and T. Tangitu. The Tauranga and Te Puke natives will meet in a game at Tauranga on Saturday next.

Repairs are being effected to the Town Wharf by the Harbourmaster, Mr T. A. Dickson. If heavy vehicles were prohibited from using the wharf it would tend to prolong its life and keep down the cost of repairs.

The Tauranga Fire Brigade held a run last night for the Randle Cup which resulted; Fireman H. Bickers, 1; Fireman F. Bickers, 2; Fireman J. Downey, 3. Eleven competed.

The maize crop at Motiti Island has been a good one. A fair quantity has been already shelled and conveyed to Tauranga, whence it is railed to other districts. The total yield is estimated at about three thousand sacks. The natives of Motiti and Matakana Island are now busy ploughing and preparing the land for planting maize next month.

Many high-class Jersey cattle ifrere railed yesterday from the Waikato to various destinations in the Bay of Plenty. Some of them were purchased at prices up to 135 guineas.

A large number of fat cattle were sent through yesterday by rail tg the Westfield market, where they will be sold to-day. Regular consignments are being sent forward every week and many of the lots have topped the market lately.

We understand that eight springing cows are missing from the farm of Mr G. E. Clarke, of Cambridge Road. The cows were missed by the owner bn Sunday and the matter is now in the hands of the police. There are two black cows, one black and white, one Jersey (silver colour), one fawn Jersey, one dark fawn Jersey, one Ayrshire, and one cow almost white with strawberry neck.
