NO POTIONS.

LOVE COMES UNAIDED TO GIRLS. Unlike the two old maids who were tricked in London by a woman who was sent to gaol, Sydney girls do not need love potions to secure husbands. “They are so nice,” said a doctor, • “that they need no aid to love.”

The manager of one of the city's bigest pharmacy Arms said that in 30 years he had never been asked for ■, “love potions.” Many years ago a preparation known as ‘dragon’s blood” was used by the superstitious when in search of a husband. It was really a gum —used in the mixture of paint!— which was burnt as a charm. A “Sun” reporter asked some pretty girls what Miss Sydney had to do to secure a husband. “All she has to do is to be herself,” said Miss Joyce Pittar. “There seem to be too many boys to have to worry, anyhow. The boys might find it hard to get a wife but I think most girls could get a husband. Nowadays, though, girls don’t want husbands =o much — they can look after themselves. They, don’t want to marry unless he can > keep them properly.” Miss Joan Wright says: “If they are just their charming selves, and are nice, someone will marry them. Be nice to the man—one must go the ■ right away, about it. It all depends on the man she is after. Lots of . girls haven’t even got to try, but I think some little effort is needed on the part of most girls.” A member of the Pickwick Book Club: "Do the right thing at the right moment—that’s important, A girl just has to have a bit of sense ( and ‘lt,’ but if she finds Dial the man doesn’t like her she should not bother about him.”
