GIRL GUIDES.

DISTRICT COMMITTEE MEETING

A most interesting meeting of delegates from the Katikati, Te Puke, Tauranga and Pongakawa Girl Guide Executive Committees, forming a District Committee, was held recently at “Falrlight,” the residence, of Mrs Christian, District Commissioner. The meeting was presided over by Sister Harris, of Rotorua, Provincial Commissioner, who was present to meet the delegates and discuss the many points of interest relative to the organising of the district activities. Those present were Mrs Christian (District Commissioner), Mrs Coates, (Rotorua, Provincial Secretary), Mesdames Body, Poole, Atkinson, and W. H. Turner (Katikati delegates), Mesdames Downes, Knight, Wickham, Wilkie and Hickson (Te Puke and Pongakawa delegates), Mesdames Ryder, Brewer, and W. M. Campbell (Tauranga delegates). One of the chief topics discussed was the proposal to hold a big district rally at Te Puke in March, 1933. It was also decided that a high standard of efficiency should be aimed at by examiners in badge work and that the oral and written work be standardised throughout the district by the setting of examination papers to be common to each Company in the district. Entries for the Lady Alice Ferguson competition were ifo be encouraged by the committees in buying the material for the garments to be made by the competitors. A meeting of Gulders, Officers and Leaders from the district centres was also convened to meet Sister Harris on this occasion and to discuss and to receive advice about the administration of their duties and to receive their well-deserved acknowledgment of their endeavours and encouragement for the forthcoming year’s activities. Afternoon tea was served in the drawing room and dining room by Mrs F. N. Christian, assisted by Guides Dorothy Papps and Margery Rendell, Executive Conunitcc Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Tauranga Girl Guides Executive Committee took place on Tuesday afternon at the Parish Hall, Devonport Road. Mrs Christian, District Commisr sioner, presided, others present being Mesdames Brewer, Ryder, Castles, Campbell and Miss Porter (Captain of Guides). Apologies for absence were received from the Mayoress, Mrs B. C. Robbins, and from Mrs Kennedy. Congratulations were tendered to Captain Porter and Brown Owl Lilac Swan on obtaining their warrats as officers. The Guides and Rangers were also congratulated for their beutifully decorated lorry in the Jubilee Carnival Procession and for securing first prize for same. Mention was made of the most satisfactory attendance of the company at the Anzac Day Procession and Memorial Service at the Town Hall. The main business of the committee that was discussed was the decision to hold an Olde English Village Faire in the Town Hall in August. . , The Faire will be held in lieu of the usual annual concert. The Brownies, Guides and Rangers are working so industriously for their various badges and competitions that it was deemed inadvisable to encroach on their time for the lengthy preparations which a concert of high merit entails. The public will, however, be afforded an excellent opportunity at this Ye Olde English Faire to judge of their efficiency and originality. To see examples of their work, as set out for sale, and of their play, as presented by their quaint and entertaining Olde English dances. The Company’s ambition is that this Village Faire will be outstanding in the annals of Tauranga entertainments for quaint picturesqueness and for economy for purchasers.
