FLAX TREATMENT.
EXPERIMENTS IN CELLULOSE PRODUCTION. Arrangements have been completed for the establishment of a laboratory in Auckland in which the production of bleached sulphite cellulose pulp from New Zealand flax by the processes invented by Dr J. W. Brown will be carired out on a semicommercial scale.
One of the primary objects of the establishment of this laboratory will be to train a number of men to fit them for key positions in the industry. if and when bulk production becomes possible.
Dr Brown expects to leave Auckland by the s.s. Ulimaroa to-day arid to be back in New Zealand by then end of April, when the laboratory will commence operations. Mr A. K. Wilson will remain in Auckland to supervise the erection 'of the necessary plant.
