RAGWORT PEST.
AN ERADICATION SCHEME. The Putaruru Press recently received copies of correspondence from Mr C. H. Clinkard, M.P., relative to the question of the eradication of ragwort.
In a letter to Mr Clinkard, the Minister of Lands (Hon. E. A. Ransom) stated . that the former's proposals for a comprehensive scheme for the eradication of ragwort by utilising unemployed labour had been forwarded to the Minister of Unemployment (Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates). Enclosed was the following letter from Mr M. J. Dowd, Putaruru, sent to Mr Ransom;
“I am glad to inform you that 1 have discovered a. simple way of destroying ragwort. There is no outlay whatsoever. Labour required is quite easy. 1 would be pleased if yould would send one of your officers to have a look at my farm and see the result.” A representative of the Putaruru Press waited on Mr Dowd to ascertain the methods adopted by that gentleman. Mr Dowd preferred not to give the Information at the present juncture, but stated that it was far more efficacious and cheaper than sodium chlorate. Mr Dowd stated that the full effects of the method would not be seen until later on in the season.
