NOTORIOUS BANDIT
Fight With Desperado in Vancouver. POLICE OFFICER KILLED. Vancouver March 28 This city’s most notorious bandit, William Bagiev broke away from three months' hiding, commandeered a policeman’s car and finally fought a gun duel with the officers. He killed one and then escaped. A convicted bank robber, Bagley and four others broke gaol in December. Three of them were recaptured, but Bagley and Fawcett escaped. Within three weeks they have cracked four safes, terrorised two coast villages and were preparing for another hank burglary when they ran foul of PoliceOfficer Cameron, who (railed them in a car until tlie bandits seized him and ma,de him prisoner in his own car which they forced him to drive. Fawcett later returned to the city to pick up a cache of rilles when the police captured him. Meanwhile Bagley was becoming suspicious. He hailed a passing motorist, using Cameron’s police badge to commandeer the car, and started back to the city to see what had happened to Fawcett. The police got on his trail and forced his car to the kerb.- Bagley leaped out. shooting with revolvers in both his hands. He killed Officer Maxwell and escaped in a dark lane. The biggest manhunt in the city’s history is now proceeding.
