RAILWAY SERVICE.

AUCKLAN D-WELLIN'C TON ORDINARY EXPRESS.

It is pleasing to find that as particulars of the new timing in connection with the running of the ordinary Main Trunk express from Auckland (to commence on Monday, April 41 are becoming more fully understood, the general attitude of the travelling public is found to be increasingly favourable to the alteration. The new train will make nineteen intermediate stops—three more than are made by the present 7.40 p.m. Sunday to Friday express from Auckland—and under the new r timing of the 3 p.m. week-day departure from Auckland there will be a Saturday train arriving Wellington on Sunday morning, thus conveniently breaking the previous long gap between Friday night and Sunday night for Main Trunk trains from Auckland.

To sum up, it may be said that the new timing will give a more efficient service to the public, help to regain traffic in the Auckland-Prank-ton-Hamilton area, make better connections for south from the Taaiea-tua-Tauranga line, and give a much improved service to Te Kuiti, Taumarunui, and National Park. Certain disadvantages will undoubtedly alcrue in the WanganuiMarton area, but it is felt from the latest information to hand, that the Board’s conclusion that the 3 p.m. express from Auckland will give the greatest measure of service possible to the greatest number of people, will be borne out when the new timing comes into operation on April 4.
