THE PIG INDUSTRY.
DIRECTORS OPTIMISTIC. "The support accorded by dairyfarmers since the company was reorganised has been exceedingly pleasing.” said Mr W. A. Phillips, Chairman of Directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, Limited, in an interview at Hamilton
The directors were optimistic as to the future, continued Mr Phillips and indications were that the companyhad left the worst behind it. With continued support to the degree that had been shown since operations were commenced this season, there could be no doubt that the final returns to suppliers would be satisfactory. District meetings had been held in many centres and the company had been pledged to support and confidence. “It has been learned from these district meetings that the method of making advance payments by paying suppliers 75 per cent, of certain stated values sometimes led to confusion and misunderstanding” said Mr Phillips. "Suppliers wanted to know exactly how much per pound their advance would be. On and after Monday a straightout advance price will be paid. This will enable suppliers to see at a glance what value they are being advanced for their pigs and at the same time be an Indication to them of what the company estimates the final returns will be. The final payment will continue to be made on the same basis as hitherto, that is. a percentage of the advance previously paid. Thus suppliers receiving an advance which they know to be 75 per cent, of the estimated values may anticipate a further 25 per cent, final payment, which will be one-third of the amount already paid by way of advance.”
