TOLL OF TORNADOES IN UNITED STATES
Dead Estimated at 275. HUNDREDS HOMELESS. New York. March 22. The casualties due to the tornadoes which swept five southern Slates of America yesterday are now estimated at 275 dead and about 250*1 injured. The details are; States Dead. Injured. Alabama 220 2200 Georgia 3 4 150 Tennessee 17 100 South Carolina ... 2 25 Kentucky 2 * •Number not estimated. More than 40 widely-scattered comm mi it ies wen: abetted. The disaster was one of the greatest in the history of the South. Alabama bore the brunt of it. The affected communities were cut off by the wind and rain but communication was restored at dawn today. Casually lists then came to hand from the rescue parties engaged in searching among the wreckage. Hundreds of people arc homeless and the damage to properly is heavy.
